In 1850 Gilpin and Patsy Eades bought their first tract of land, 103 acres, for $20.00. By 1877 they owned 580 acres for which they had paid $1,100.00. They built the first white two-story house with glass windows in the area. They reared five girls: Elvinia, Jane, Amanda, Nancy, and Consadie.
